Golden Gate Village Secures Critical Funding Needed to Launch Phase 1 of Revitalization
MARIN CITY, CA – The revitalization of the historic Golden Gate Village is moving from plans to reality. The community has received an award reservation of tax credits and bonds from the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) and California Debt Limit Allocation Committee (CDLAC), unlocking a key piece of financing needed to start Phase 1 of the revitalization in early 2026. Planning for remaining phases is anticipated to start as soon as 2027.
Phase 1 will focus on a portion of the property’s historic mid-century low-rise buildings, delivering upgraded kitchens and bathrooms, enhanced building safety features, energy-efficiency improvements, and refreshed outdoor spaces. These long-awaited repairs reflect years of collaboration, planning, and input from residents who helped shape the vision for revitalization.
“This award marks the beginning of a transformative period for Golden Gate Village. It allows us to move forward with the first phase of revitalization, ensuring our current residents will have comfortable, modern apartments, and Golden Gate Village will continue to be a vibrant community for families for years to come,” said Stephanie Moulton-Peters, Marin County District 3 Supervisor and Chair of the Marin Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
"This milestone reflects years of work pulling together multiple layers of funding and planning,” said Kimberly Carroll, Executive Director of the Marin Housing Authority. “It’s a complicated process, and we’re grateful to the residents, our partners, staff and community advocates who have stayed engaged and pushed this project forward."
This milestone builds on years of collaboration among Marin Housing Authority, the residents of Golden Gate Village, and Burbank Housing to keep the project moving forward.
“Golden Gate Village is such an important part of Marin City’s history, and we’re honored to be a part of its future,” said Larry Florin, CEO and President at Burbank Housing. “Residents have shared their ideas and hopes for the community for years, and we’re eager to finally get started on the work they have helped shape.”
As planning for Phase 1 moves forward, Burbank Housing and Marin Housing Authority will continue working closely with residents to prepare for the next steps, including temporary relocation, revitalization, and their return to a newly refurbished home. For residents like Neil Hammari, who has lived in the community for over a decade, the improvements are a welcome change.
“We’ve been living in Golden Gate Village for 13 years now, and it’s been such a blessing for my family,” said longtime resident Neil Hammari. “We know we’re going to have to move out for the remodeling because there are a lot of deep repairs needed in the bathrooms and kitchens. But overall, we love this housing situation and look forward to moving back into a home with new countertops and new updates, and to spending many more years here.”
