Important Update From Burbank Housing!

With planning for the revitalization of Phase 1 well underway, we are excited to share that MHA and Burbank Housing have begun looking at opportunities to move forward with the revitalization of Phases 2 and 3! Recent changes at the federal level, both to the budget and housing policy, have pushed for major increases in housing tax incentives, signaling that now is the time to begin applying for funding for Phases 2 and 3!

This is very good news for Phases 2 and 3 and suggests that, if funding is awarded, revitalization of these phases could begin earlier than originally anticipated - potentially as soon as 2027

We know residents have waited decades for their homes to be revitalized, and applying for critically needed funding now means that, if awarded, all Golden Gate Village residents will be able to enjoy revitalized homes sooner than originally anticipated!

Spring

To take advantage of these funding opportunities, MHA and Burbank plan to begin applying for Low Income Housing Tax Credits for Phases 2 and 3 in May of this year. Similar to the process that was completed for Phase 1, on April 156th, MHA will request approval from MHA’s Board of Commissioners fo subomit a Low Income Housing Tax Credit application this May.

If awarded, this would provide critically needed financing to move the revitalization of Phases 2 and 3 forward. We anticipate knowing as soon as June if Phases 2 and 3 are likely to receive an award, with a formal award being announced as soon as July of this year. Following a funding award, additional information as to the specific order and timing in which homes will be revitalized will be shared.

Earth Day

We recognize this is sooner than was originally anticipated and that residents may have questions as a result. We will continue to keep you apprised of our efforts to ensure you know what is happening and are made aware of the anticipated timeline for the Phase 2 and 3 revitalization.

In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for an award of funds and, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the GGV revitalization team at (707) 324-1943 or email: GGV-Project@ burbankhousing.org to learn more.

More Updates From Burbank Housing

Progress on the Phase 1 revitalization continues to move forward! As we look forward to an anficipated May start date, there is a lot of activity continuing to happen on the design, approval and funding for the Phase 1 revitalization. We anticipate that all of necessary local, state and federal approvals will be in place within the next couple of months. We are on track to close on the final funds necessary so that construction can begin!

With things continuing to move forward, all Phase 1 residents have been provided a notice of intent to convert Phase 1 from public housing to Section 8 vouchers. This notice is a requirement of the Rental Assistance Demonstration Program. Additionally, all Phase 1A residents have received a 90-day notice to temporarily relocate. As the temporary relocation date gets closer, Phase 1A residents will also receive a 30-day notice as well as 7-day notice.

Phase 1 residents can best prepare for the revitalization by:

* Remaining in good standing. All residents must be in good standing to sign a new lease. No resident in good standing will be permanently displaced. To be in “good standing,” a household must:

  1. Have no past-due rent (or be on and current with a payment plan).
  2. Submit all standard yearly recertification documents. 3. Have no lease violations or criminal charges.

GGV residents must meet these requirements to sign a new lease. If you need assistance to be in good standing, contact Michelle Pupiro with MHA at (415) 491-2525 ext. 509 or email her: mpupiro@marinhousing.org.

Meeting with the Relocation Specialist

All Phase 1 residents should meet with Raj Virk, the Autotemp Relocation Specialist, to sign their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). If you are in Subphase 1A, Raj will be reaching out to you directly to discuss your temporary housing options, which option is best for you and your household, and what you'll need to take with you during your temporary move.

If you have any questions regarding the temporary relocation process, Roj can be reached at (888) 202-9195 ext 16 or via email: raj@autotempservices.com.

Meeting with Burbank Property Management

All Phase 1 residents will need to sign their new lease no later than May. Burbank Housing Property Management will be reaching out to all Phase 1 residents to set up a time to begin the lease signing process.

If you have any questions regarding your new lease, contact Alicia Gomez with Burbank Housing Property Management via phone: (707) 324-1943 or email: GGV-Project@burbankhousing.org.

Beginning in April, Burbank will begin hosting office hours on-site Monday through Friday, between 9 am and 5:30 pm.

Getting organized now!

If you live in Subphase 1A, now is the time to start planning for your temporary move! Start thinking about what you'll need to fake with you, this includes sorting through your belongings and deciding what to keep, what to store, and what to bring with you to your temporary unit. Dumpsters will be provided to help make decluttering easier!

As areminder for Phase 1 residents only, these are the next steps you need to complete, based on your subphase:

These sub-phases will receive the following documents:

GGV Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month

In February, GGV proudly celebrated Black History Month with a joyful and meaningful community event. The celebration was a great success, bringing together residents, community partners, and guests to honor Black culture, history, and resilience.

LeShawn Holcomb, Executive Director of Griot Theater, delivered a powerful speech reflecting on the meaning of being Black and highlighting the richness and strength of the community. A Griot Theater student also performed Lift Every Voice and Sing, which added a special and inspiring moment to the event. Music was provided by DJ More Bounce, whose family has historical ties to GGV.

We were also grateful to welcome the Sankofa Youth Club who provided freshly made smoothies to residents—a huge hit with both youth and adults. Special guests included the CEO of Burbank Housing and Alicia Gomez, Director of Property Management, Resident Council representatives, Jae Moses and Natalie Broomfield, as well as Juanita Douglas, Executive Director of Tradeswomen Inc.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum's Bianely Regalado led engaging children’s activities that were very well received by families. Youth Experience Sponsorship generously sponsored the bouncy house, which added to the festive atmosphere.

dded to the festive atmosphere. OSK volunteer and resident, Kimberly Robinson along with residents—Angel Mothershed, Rose Troupe, and Natalie Broomfield—supported the event by cooking and serving food. The celebration truly felt like a family gathering. We also held a raffle for $50 gift cards, with free entry tickets so everyone had the opportunity to participate.

It was a wonderful way for the GGV community to come together in honor of Black History Month.
