Meet Demetrius Johnson, Your New Service Coordinator!

Demetrius Johnson

“Hello everyone, it is really nice to be here at the Marin Housing Authority, coming from roughly 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with about 10-15 years of that in various housing programs and roles.

I am an outdoors kind of person and enjoy spending time taking hikes, going to the ocean, hanging out with my dog weather that’s going for walks or to the ocean, and spending time with family and friends.

As housing is so important to all of us, and impacts so much of our daily lives. I look forward to supporting the residents, and community in their housing goals and overall quality of life.”

What Are Repair Fairs?

Repair Fairs are free events where community members can bring an item (lamp, bike, clothes, small appliances, etc.) for free repair. Attendees sit with a Repair Coach who explains their approach to fixing the item.

Reminders From Property Management

RECYCLING

Please flatten all boxes for recycling! We have limited space for recycling. Please make sure to flatten all boxes so that we have space for everyone’s discarded materials.

Please be aware that the garbage companies will not pick up contaminated food and/or recycling bins, so make sure that you place garbage and recycling in the correct bins. Reach out to Tashi with any issues related to garbage/recycling bins – whether they are contaminated, or are not picked up, etc.

EXTERIOR DOORS

Please keep the exterior doors to common areas and community rooms closed at all times. Spring is an active time for rodents/bugs.

NEIGHBORLY BEHAVIOR

Be a Good Neighbor! Being neighborly is defined as behaviors or actions that are friendly, kind, helpful and amicable. It includes consideration, respect and understanding towards others: it is being decent, generous and supportive.

Please be nice to each other! Do not use profanity, yell at or call other residents names.

Treat your neighbors as you would like to be treated.

Please help keep our hallways and common areas free from pests by keeping the doors closed.

COMMON AREAS

Common Walkways, Stairs, Patios etc. – should be kept clear at all times. Items in walkways and common areas pose tripping hazards and must be avoided. Please do not place any items including outdoor mats in walkways, stairs, landing etc.

Do not use water to clean wooden stairways, walkways or landings. Even when covered with a mastic, extra water on these areas can damage the wood and underlying supports. This is especially true for Homestead Terrace and Venetia Oaks.

NEW PEST CONTROL COMPANY

MHA has hired a new pest control company to provide increased service. Please create a work order for any pest control needs. They will be onsite Mondays and/or Thursday for treatments.

ANNUAL RECERTIFICATIONS

Please submit your annual recertification on time with all supporting documents! Going forward, lease provision regarding late ARs will be enforced including but not limited to rent increase to market rate – between $1800 - $2500 per month and lease termination. If you need assistance completing your AR please reach out to Tashi, Carrie or to Demetrius, your new Service Coordinator!

Amazing Herbs: Rosemary

Rosemary has a strong, sweet, piney aroma. An evergreen bush, this herb is easy to grow in containers and loves the sunlight. Its spiky leaves are used often in cooking, especially with lamb or other red meat, as well as in Italian recipes and with roasted potatoes.

Rosemary is an excellent source of vitamin A and iron, and studies show it may also be a memory aid. In late spring, the rosemary plant produces light blue and purple flowers.
